Inanna Ishtar

Inanna Ishtar was the goddess of love, justice, war and power. She was known as the "Queen of Heaven" and was worshiped by Babylonians, Assyrians and Akkadians as a Ishtar. She was respected by many cults and as time passed, she kept being worshiped more and more. Inanna had become one of the most widely worshiped goddess in Mesopotamia. Most of these people who worshiped her were different gendered people and they were the ones who succeeded the Sumerians in the area. Inanna's cult kept on influencing other goddesses and more as she expanded until she reached a major decline between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. Although her cult mostly came to an end, it still existed in the Upper Mesopotamia until the 18th century. Inanna was known for stealing all positive and negative parts of civilization, also known as the mes from Enki who was the god of wisdom. She has taken over many empires and civilizations and she was very well known for being the enforcer of divine justice a...

Flood Myth

This myth uses floods as a comparison to chaos and one of the biggest theme that chaos is usually linked too is drama. The only thing different about the floods in this myth is that every time a flood was caused good things to come into Torrence. This myth also involves the god of storm and how even in today's world, a storm or lightning always resembles anger, sadness, or downfall. A god names Enlil joined the rest of the other gods as they all gathered too sacrifice. The difference with Enlil was he brought a flood and brought in destruction too all these other gods. Eventually Enlil approaches two people, a man and his wife, ends up blessing them, and tells them that they are going too live in the river mouths. In the Mesopotamian mentality, floods were known too be bad and they were brought as punishments but the reason Noah was saved was too bring back mankind and become reborn and increase in number. Until today floods, tornadoes, thunder, etc all make up signs of darkness, s...

Oedipus

The myth of Oedipus also known as Oedipus the King, shares a main message of a mission or quest to find identity. Oedipus was left by his father too die at a young age and was later saved by another family. As Oedipus grows older,  he runs into three men and ends up having an argument with them. Oedipus the kills all three men and one of the men is believed too be his father. He is rewarded for saving the city and is given the opportunity too marry the queen who ends up being his mom. This myth involves a lot of suspense, faith, and blindness. Once Oedipus ends up realizing that the person he killed was his father and the women he married was his mother the whole story becomes complete drama and Oedipus couldn't believe what he has done. This myth shows a lot of deeper messages than just Oedipus killing his father and marrying his mother such as lack of communication, dramatic series of events, and a lot of coincidences. One main message that I also included in my essay was that th...
Creation Myth Summary Another word for "myth of creation" is called cosmogony, where in Greek, kosmos means "order", and genesis means "birth" explains a story of how the cosmos began and grew. A big factor of the topic for myths of creation was the Mesopotamians. They said that without them, none of this creation myths or even the creation of mankind and nature would have even occurred. In there history, they tended too believe in multiple gods such as the god of water(including ocean and sea), sky gods, earth gods, and the weapon of the sun god. Mesopotamians believe that it was their gods who basically started earth and they had their highest god who was named Marduk. The whole meaning of creation in our lives, supposedly means that each persons birth is a story which somehow reveals something more about that person. Also, it is  said that the myth of creation has a lot of ties with the myths of origin due to both of them having to do with indi...
